A NEW ring-selling facility and an impressive line-up of Angus bulls combined to ensure a solid result for the Wallace family, Springhills Angus stud, in its second open on-property bull sale at Boyup Brook on Monday. This year’s Springhills sale team represented exactly what the Wallace family was striving towards for its 2025 sale, including real muscle, shape and thickness, along with structural correctness and docility. A total of 22 bulls that represented the Angus breed well were offered and they proved to be highly sought after by an array of buyers eager to secure new genetics when they bid up on their catalogue favourites.

Both new and returning clients, from not only the local area but also from throughout the larger South West region and the Wheatbelt and Peel ‘ regions, supported the sale. The sale, which was interfaced on AuctionsPlus, attracted just shy of 1600 catalogue views leading up to the fixture and 30 online bidders, one of which managed to secure a bull via the platform.

The Nutrien Livestock selling team, led by auctioneer Austin Gerhardy, took bids from left, right and centre, which helped the stud clear 21 of the 22 bulls offered under the hammer to an average of $7476, up $713 on last year’s result.
Last year 19 bulls sold from 24 offered at an average of $6763.

Nutrien Livestock, Boyup Brook and Bridgetown agent Jamie Abbs, Abbs Rural Agencies, said it was a very good result for the Wallace family and the Springhills team. “The line-up of bulls was top-quality and very well- presented,” Mr Abbs said.
“There was very strong local buying support throughout the sale which was great to see. “It was good to see a larger buying crowd made up of existing clients as well as new support from Donnybrook, Wandering and Kojonup.
“The Paratrooper sons attracted very good, strong competition.” Mr Abbs made a point of praising the new selling facilities at Springhills. “They were first-class and worked very well,” he said.
“Congratulations to the Wallace family for their hard work and putting up a great sale team this year.”

It was a bull from lot seven that caught the eye of numerous buyers and took out the sale’s $13,000 top price honours.
The March 2023-drop Millah Murrah Paratrooper R82 PV son. Springhills U41, which is out of Allegria Park M22, was quickly snapped up by return buyers, Rhodes Pastoral’s farm manager Michael Wright and cattle manager John Curtain.
